Spray Foam Insulation Cost
Stay On Budget With Spray Foam Insulation
For commercial construction, Spray Foam insulation costs can help allow architectural firms to stay on budget without compromising performance, energy efficiency or thermal comfort. Whether choosing to specify closed cell Spray Foam insulation, open cell Spray Foam insulation or both in your commercial construction project, Spray Foam insulation costs are comparable to other products on the market.
Exterior Applications
Whether used in steel framed wall or on CMU concrete blocks, closed cell Spray Foam insulation in commercial construction offers a lower installed cost per square foot compared to a rigid XPS foam board system. Closed-cell Spray Foam insulation offers:
- all-in-one continuous insulation and air barrier
- reduced labor required
- reduced material wastage
- ability to completely cover all areas that could otherwise provide energy draining thermal bridges
Interior Applications
Open-cell Spray Foam insulation allows architectural firms to design cost effective, energy efficient commercial buildings. Low density Spray Foam can be installed at a significantly lower cost to target the same R-value* specification required by the building code.
Open-cell Spray Foam insulation requires less material than closed cell Spray Foam insulation, making it an ideal and cost effective solution for use within the interior of commercial construction designs.

Why should I consider spray foam insulation?
When considering insulation, a commonly-used term is R-value. R-value measures how well the insulation can resist heat movement through it. However, R-value cannot measure heat movement carried in the air. Adding thicker insulation or higher R-value in your new home does not necessarily mean improved thermal comfort and air-sealing. In fact, you may still experience higher-thanaverage heating and cooling bills. Therefore, it’s important to consider how your new home’s insulation will perform over the long-term. An insulation and air barrier system such as Icynene Spray Foam insulation ensures that your home does not lose lots of heated or cooled air and provides an effective and building-code compliant R-value.
Quiet comfort
it is suggested that the maximum moisture content of wood to be sprayed with foam should be below 10%. Special care need be taken with laminates, such as some plywood, due to the possibility of higher moisture content and the possible presence of surface treatment which can adversely affect the Spray Foam. It is recommended that an adhesion test be performed if the moisture content is suspected to be higher than 10%.
Mold protection
new galvanized steel should be washed with a solvent or acid, then with water, and finally, primed. Galvanized steel which has been allowed to weather may not need to be washed with solvent, and it may be possible to only wash with water and then prime.
Fewer drafts
Spray Foam insulation can usually be applied direct to bare steel after the standard removal of any bare scale or rust. It is important, however; that when insulating, tanks, that the steel be sand blasted and primed.
Breathe easier
the surface should be cleaned with xylol or mineral spirits and then primed. In some cases, to achieve adequate adhesion between the primer and the stainless steel, it may be necessary to sand blast.
Protect against flooding
should be cleaned with a solvent, never with a caustic solution. Aluminum must always be primed prior to the application of Spray Foam to prevent corrosion of the aluminum after the application, by acids formed at the surface between the foam and aluminum.
Deter pests
is one of the most difficult substrates to spray on because of the possibility of high moisture content. Make sure that the moisture content is under 10%, use a moisture meter to measure if needed. If there is excess salt precipitation for the concrete then it is best to clean the concrete with muriatic acid.
